I have been using Constant Contact to send email blasts to our parishioners over the past six months.  We currently have the email addresses of over 1,200 families.  Considering that we have more than three times that number of families, I am once again asking that you submit your email address (if you have not yet done so) to me so that you will be included on the distribution list.  We will not send solicitation but rather pertinent information regarding events and news in our parish.  If you have not received an email from St. John the Evangelist then we either do not have your email address or have an incorrect or old address.  Please email me at [email protected] to submit your email address.  As I continue to work my way through the intricacies of the Constant Contact system, you will receive more interactive and informative emails.  We have averaged a 70% open rate for the emails sent thus far, which would lead me to believe that you are interested in receiving and reading email from your parish.

Have you connected to our mobile app for St. John the Evangelist?  We are averaging 1,000 hits per month on the mobile app.  All you need to do to access the mobile site is login to our website from your smartphone, and you will automatically be redirected to the mobile app.  If you are an iPhone user, you will also have the option of placing a St. John the Evangelist icon directly on your home page for easier future access.  With the mobile app, you can read Scott’s Corner, check the priest’s schedule and read the entire bulletin if you like.  If you have a QR code reader on your smartphone, you can simply scan the bar code on the bulletin and be automatically directed to our site.

We are dedicating “Andrea’s Angel” this Sunday following the 11:00 a.m. Mass in the Memorial Garden.  If you are able, please come out and honor the Costain family as we recognize the one year anniversary of Andrea’s passing.  Thank you to all of our parishioners who made a contribution towards this beautiful statue.  Andrea’s Angel is now fully funded!

While on the subject of statues, I would like to announce an exciting new statue that will take up residency on our campus to be unveiled on Veteran’s Day.  Bill and Eileen Fuller (parishioners and Bill is a proud veteran of the Air Force) generously purchased the statue entitled “Lest we Forget” depicting Jesus embracing a soldier.  Timothy Schmalz is the sculptor and happens to be the same sculptor that produced the Corpus for our Crucifix, Blessed Mother and St. John the Evangelist Statues in the church.  Timothy writes about this piece – “The emotional and physical scars of war are cleansed through Christ’s loving embrace, which is also the source of this soldier’s strength.”  The statue will be located immediately in front of the church on the south side of the main drive (see attached renderings.)  For years, we have been contemplating what to do with this “dead area” in front of the church.  The statue will feature an oval paver patio, granite benches and three flag poles which will fly the American flag, Papal flag and, hopefully, one featuring our St. John the Evangelist eagle logo.  The base of the statue will feature granite engraved with the logos of all the branches of the Armed Services.  After obtaini"Lest We Forget" statueng final pricing, we will offer for sale all three flag poles, six benches and numerous engraved oversized brick pavers.  The benches will be engraved similar to those located in the Memorial Garden. The donor for each flagpole will receive a bronze plaque installed adjacent to the base of each respective pole.  For those who missed out on the bench program, here is your opportunity to purchase one in a very prominent location.  Please stay tuned for further details as they are available.  Thank you once again to Bill and Eileen Fuller for the purchase of this very beautiful statue.

Members of the Buildings & Grounds Committee are beginning to trickle back in to town after a restful summer.  What does this mean for us?  It means that the campus will begin to spruce up to prepare for the return of our seasonal parishioners.  The extremely hot summer months don’t allow us the opportunity to plant many annuals as they will wither and die without constant irrigation.  Over the next few months, look for the addition of splashes of color throughout our campus, including the Memorial Garden and Prayer Garden.  You will notice that the Dunes Sunflowers we planted at the very front of our site are now thriving with the recent rainfall and add a nice touch of color to what was a very boring landscape.

In His work together,

Scott Schlossberg, MBA
General Manager
