February 3, 2013

On Sunday, March 10 we will host what is now to be known as “Family Fun & Ministry Day.”  We have been through several iterations of exactly what this day will incorporate.  After discussion with numerous ministry representatives, it was decided that March 10 will be a day to bring together all members of the parish (young and old) in a fun and cost-free setting while showcasing the many ministries at St. John the Evangelist.  The event will take place from noon to 3:00 p.m. in the courtyard, ballroom and back fields near the Claussen Center.  When I say there will be something for everyone, I truly mean it!  We want families and their children to attend.  As a result, we are going all out to encourage your attendance.  We will have numerous bounce houses and obstacle courses, a dunk tank (with myself and others as dunkees), a climbing wall, numerous crafts, a balloon toss, potato sack races, a cake walk and many more activities.  We will also have a clown and a juggler who fabricates balloon characters.  There will also be live entertainment in the ballroom for those wanting to simply relax.  All of the activities will be operated by representatives from our various parish ministries.  If your parish ministry would like to participate in operating any of these events, please contact me to make further arrangements.  The Men’s Club will provide a full picnic fare complete with hamburgers and hot dogs.  In addition, there will be a snow cone, cotton candy and popcorn stand to keep the kids happy.  Beer and wine will be provided to keep the adults happy.  Remember, this event is completely free of charge so there is no reason for you to pass it up.  If you are a retiree, single parent or the parents of a family of 12, we want you in attendance!  We will have full page flyers in upcoming bulletins so be on the lookout.  Please mark your calendars for this all inclusive parish event!

Miniature replicas of the “Lest we Forget” statue have arrived and are available in the gift shop.  There are an extremely limited number available (8) so get yours sooner than later.  The next shipment will not arrive until April as the foundry has exhausted their inventory and are fabricating more.  Four of the eight miniatures are from a different mold and are lighter in color.  If you like the appearance, I can get more of these prior to April.

This is Super Bowl weekend and I look forward to seeing you outside of all morning Masses this Sunday.  Please consider purchasing a Super Bowl square with the possibility of winning up to $300 during the game.  The cost is only $5 and $10 per square.  Proceeds from the Super Bowl will benefit the Youth Ministry program.  If you would like to join us at the Super Bowl party and have not yet purchased a ticket, you may purchase one from me outside of Mass or get one at the door.  We have a great crowd attending and are looking forward to a magnificent game.  For those attending the Super Bowl Party, you will be treated to an amazing picture on all four of our 12’ screens.  In addition, because all of the equipment is ceiling mounted, the location of your seat really doesn’t matter as everyone will be treated to the same amazing picture.  The quality of the picture is as good or better than what you may have at home.

I sent out an email blast this past Wednesday to all parishioners regarding the upcoming Family Fun and Ministry Day.  If you did not receive this email then we do not have your email address or have an incorrect email address. Have you submitted your email address?  Email is an extremely effective way to convey important information quickly to all of our parishioners.  If you would like to be included, please submit your email address to me at [email protected].

Did you know that we already have $36,378.00 pledged towards the 2013 Catholic Faith Appeal?  We are well “ahead of the 8-ball” with regards to reaching our goal for 2013.  Thanks to those parishioners who have already contributed in 2013.  Here’s looking forward to another very successful appeal in 2013.  And since I can’t thank you enough…..Thank you again so much for your generosity in allowing us to greatly exceed our goal in 2012.

As you read my column, many members of our choir are travelling through Italy, culminating with a performance at St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican.  Other performances will include St. Francis Basilica in Assisi and Santa Maria Novella in Florence.  Please pray for our very talented musicians as they entertain thousands throughout Italy.

In His work together,

Scott Schlossberg, MBA
General Manager
