Renaming the Library

The Church of Italy lets herself be carried by his powerful — and thus, at times, restless — breath. She always takes on the spirit of her great explorers, who on ships were passionate about navigating the open sea and not frightened by frontiers and storms. – Pope Francis

A few weeks ago, we showcased the new renovations that will begin in the Library.  Those materials have been purchased and we are currently planning the 3-week renovation project.  The graphic below illustrates just how impactful the plan for our Parish Family and this campaign will be on our campus.  However, since this renewal will transform our old Library into a new multi-purpose space, dedicated to meetings, seminars, and receptions, it no longer makes sense to call it a “Library”.  In fact, there has not been a single book in the Library since I started working here at St. John.  We have already renamed the PLC into the Parish Activity Center, so it is natural that we rename this multipurpose room in a way that will provide a direction for the naming of the major locations of our campus.

So, we wanted to ask you for some suggestions.  Do we start to name our main rooms with saint names?  Florida wildlife?  Catholic universities?  Please let me know what you think and we can begin the transition of our room names so it will be easy to find our way around the campus.  Would you rather meet in the Francis Room, the Eagle Room, or the El Capitan Room?  Maybe the Georgetown Room or the Enterprise Room (could be naval ships, organizations, or Star Trek)?  Please contact me with your suggestions and we will move forward.

While the money has been pledged in our Build Our Future, Serve Our Past capital campaign to build our Life Center and some of our other urgent needs, we still need our entire Parish Family to give in order to reach our additional goals, including the detailed execution of the above programs. If you have any questions, please contact Joe Lichwalla, the Campaign Coordinator at 239-495-2001 or email: [email protected].
