Be Careful of Responding to Odd Email Messages
There are some despicable people that are attempting to take advantage of the financial and health concerns of our good Parish Family members by making it seem like Father Tom, or some of our other clergy or staff, are sending email requests to connect. Then, if you respond, they ask for you to go out and purchase gift cards and provide them the details of the cards. This is a hoax called Spear Phishing.
Please do not fall for it. Saint John Staff and Clergy will never ask for money/gift cards from you over email. Always check to see if the email is coming from a “@sjecc.com” email address (sometimes email addresses are hidden behind the name of the person, but you can always click on the “From” area to see the email address).
Please delete these emails and do not reply. Even just responding then allow these individuals to use your email for spam and malware messages.
