Virtual Panel Discussion: The Impact of COVID-19 on the Catholic Community

Saint John the Evangelist Responds to the Pandemic and Our Community Needs

For nine months, almost every aspect of our parish has been impacted by the coronavirus disease 2019. Masses have gone from a packed church to restricted attendance with social distancing, but technology has enabled streaming so many more parishioners can attend remotely. For many weeks, sacraments were deferred, and still there are strict limits for participation.

Although most of our expenses continue unchanged, contributions are down. Most forms of outreach have likewise been negatively impacted by restrictions on face-to-face encounters. Operations are conducted under mandates from our Bishop and Florida officials, and the ground rules are regularly changing.

We are fortunate that Father Tom Zalewski and his team of department leaders have provided a steady hand as we navigate these turbulent times. If you have any questions you would like answered during this panel, please email [email protected].

On Tuesday, January 26, at 6:00 p.m., a panel discussion addressing both what has happened and what is planned will be live streamed from St John. On the panel, Father Tom will be joined by our Business Manager, JP Boucher; Natalie Campbell, our Director of Faith Formation; Maureen Reed, head of the Eucharistic Ministers; and Carl Monticelli, president of our St. Vincent de Paul Society.
