Saint John Helps Feed 1700 People in Immokalee during Thanksgiving in the Park

DSC_0077What an amazing week of giving from our Parish Family to the local community!  First, hundreds of bags of groceries were delivered by our parishioners to our church for Saint Vincent DePaul Society Thanksgiving Food Pantry support.  Then, on Tuesday, over 35 turkeys were brought by our parishioners in preparation for Thanksgiving in the Park.  This massive volunteer service program has been in operation for over 30 years now, and this year, Saint John was asked to lead the religious organizations’ support.  On Wednesday, over 100 volunteers from churches all over the area helped pull turkey and set up mashed potatoes.  Special thanks should be given for Lou Altieri and the Knights of Columbus Council 11281, and the Ladies of Charity.  Both groups came together and gave of their time and efforts to make sure Thursday would work perfectly.  Due to their hard work, the Thanksgiving in the Park volunteers on Thursday were able to feed over 1700 people, 400 more than last year.  Here is some of the positive news coverage from this event.  Thank you to everyone that helped and contributed.  We hope each year to grow this program and help even more people!
