Ministry Spotlight: Knights of Columbus

Ok2014FrontUPDATE: KoC Oktoberfest featured today on WINK News video below

There are dozens of groups and ways the Parish Family of St. John can get involved in our Mission: To Know, To Love, and To Serve God. Ministries are active groups that dedicate themselves to these efforts in the name of St. John and the Catholic Church.  As part of an on-going series, we want to spotlight some of these ministries for their efforts and to educate you all on what they are up to and how you could join them.

Our first Ministry Spotlight is on the Knights of Columbus.  The KoC is a Ministry of St. John focused on service to the community.  Orginally started in Connecticut by a priest looking to help the widows of Industrial Age immigrants who were left unable to support their families (isn’t it amazing that the same issue still occurs here in the US today?) by banding the men of the community together to support those families.  It has grown to over 1.8 million members in many countries around the world.

If you are looking for a way to get involved in service to the Naples and larger community, there is no better way at St. John than to join the Knights of Columbus.  From the tens of thousands of dollars raised for the soup kitchens and food pantries, to running our upcoming Thanksgiving in the Park program, feeding the community of Immokalee, to supporting our veterans with electric wheelchairs and the Honor Guard, this ministry is alive with action.  They also know how to have a good time, as seen at the recent Doo Whop Night and this weekend’s Oktoberfest.  Please contact Grand Knight Scott Schwarz at [email protected] to learn more about this organization and how you can join.
