Pope Explains Why We Need CYO and CAO

We don’t pray to win.  We pray to play the best we can, and to keep us free from injury.  And the prayer we say after the game is one of thanksgiving – Vince Lombardi

While many of us were preparing for the Big Game this past Sunday, and putting on our blue or red shirts, Pope Francis decided to distill the entire concept of sports, and especially the Super Bowl, into a 51 Second Message to the United States and the whole world:

Great sporting events like today’s Super Bowl are highly symbolic, showing that it is possible to build a culture of encounter and a world of peace.

By participating in sport, we are able to go beyond our own self-interest – and in a healthy way – we learn to sacrifice, to grow in fidelity and respect the rules.

May this year’s Super Bowl be a sign of peace, friendship and solidarity to the world.

Thank you!

Catholic Youth Organization and Catholic Adult Organization sports programs are kicking off again for the Winter Season, with soccer for CYO, and softball for CAO.  These efforts are to build the culture of encounter based on being the salt and light of the world as Catholics.  We make the world interesting and engaging.  We shine the light of love and joy for all people and invite them to join us in active living of the Gospel, caring for and respecting all life.  Help us continue Pope Francis’ vision here in Southwest Florida through sports, social activities, and the arts for all ages.

As we Build Our Future, Serve Our Past, we still need all the gifts, prayers, and support of our Parish Family to reach our Pinnacle Goals.  If you have any questions, please contact Joe Lichwalla, the Campaign Coordinator at 239-495-2001 or email: [email protected].
