Join Father Tom on a Pilgrimage and Passion Play to Europe for Lent of 2020
In the 17th century, as a result of war, poverty, and disease, the small village of Oberammergau, Germany, suffered the plague, which threatened to wipe out the population. The Oberammergau “Passion Play” resulted from a vow made by the inhabitants of the village that if God spared them the effects of the bubonic plague, they would perform a “Passion Play” every ten years. After this vow was made, not another inhabitant of the town died from the plague. The play has been performed in years ending in zero from the first performance in 1634. In 1934, a special 300th year anniversary play was performed, and as well in 1984 for the 350th anniversary. Today, it involves over 2,000 actors, singers, instrumentalists, and technicians. All are residents of the village.
On March 7, 2019, either at 10:00 a.m. or 5:00 p.m., Jet Vacations will conduct a trip presentation in the parish “Rome Room” to discuss the details for joining Father Tom and fellow parishioners, family, and friends to experience the beautiful production of Christ’s Passion in Oberammergau, Germany. The travel experience will also include a five night river cruise along the enchanting Danube sailing from Passau, Germany, to Budapest, Hungry, with stops in Vienna, Melk and Melk Abbey, Austria, and more.
