Saint John the Evangelist has transformed the concept of Catholic fellowship here in Southwest Florida in ways that are both new and renewed. We have renewed the focus on our children through Catholic Youth Organization (CYO), which had been dormant in Florida for over 35 years. For our young and senior adults, we have introduced the “Catholic Adult Organization (CAO).“
CAO is the persistent and constant set of programs here at Saint John established to enrich and engage every age of adult, from 18 to 118, and everyone in between, body, mind, soul, and spirit. The offer social activities in place including Friday family events such as “Night Out Happy Hour,” “Family Movie Night,” “Paint and Wine,” concerts, and more. Monthly BINGO and quarterly social and informational sessions for veterans who served in the Armed Forces and their families are planned. Spiritual Social of “Faith and Wine” and “Theology on Tap” are also part of the CAO program. We also include artistic and musical programs such as dance classes and painting, allowing everyone a chance to appreciate and/or learn their favorite musical instrument or artistic endeavor. The CAO also coordinates and supports activities and events sponsored and organized by our Parish Adult Ministry Groups.
And, of course, as part of our overall wellness efforts, adults can enjoy classes and physical fitness programs, including boot camps, pickleball clinics, pick-up basketball, volleyball, and spiritual exercise classes, all taught by certified personal trainers, and catered to various ages and abilities. “Balance University” is also in place along with various exercise equipment for those who have their own workout regimes along with Parish participation in the NCH Blue Zone initiative. Bocce is open to all to provide a sporting and mild competition of this adult activity.
Educational programs and topics which have been held include “English for Non-English Speaking“ individuals, basic courses in smartphone and iPad usage, as well as educational and informational topics of the day. Programs and activities will also be introduced to include those in our Parish Community who normally are unable to get out and participate in what is being offered. It’s an exciting time for the Saint John Parish Family to have access to all of this and come together as a Spiritual Family.
