St. John’s Youth Ministry jumped onto a bus and took our first road trip of the year last Saturday. Destination: Rock the Universe at Universal Studios. RTU is an annual event that features some of the best contemporary Christian artists and bands: Switchfoot, Toby Mac, Skillet, Third Day, etc.
We joined forces with St. Agnes, St. William, St. Peter and St. John Neumann High School. In total we had over 100 people, including 26 teens and adult leaders from St. John the Evangelist!
Switchfoot headlined this year — and they did not disappoint! Thousands of teens gathered to hear their unique blend of heavy electric guitars, drums, bass and sound effects. “Dare You to Move” was unquestionably their best performance of the night. Switchfoot’s lyrics are as powerful as their music:
“The tension is here. Tension is here. Between who you are and who you could be. Between how it is and how it should be. Maybe redemption has stories to tell. Maybe forgiveness is right where you fell. Where can you run to escape from yourself? Where you gonna go? Where you gonna go? Salvation is here.”
A big shout-out for all the teens and adult leaders who made this trip such a great time of faith, fellowship and fun!
