One of the most fulfilling moments in my day are the in-person meetings I have with our Parish Family members. There are issues to deal with, ranging from urgent personal needs to ideas and suggestions for improvement of our campus and our church. Some people come to me, asking how can they help our church achieve our mission. That question has always needed a long discussion about stewardship, namely what time and talents an individual has that can be harnessed to achieve God’s Plan.
During the Ministry Town Hall, the leaders of our Parish Family Ministries got together to discuss their priorities and the priorities of the church. It was clear that many of these Ministries need more support, more ministers. From serving coffee at the 9 AM Mass Hospitality Table to serving the poor at the soup kitchen, to delivering food to food pantries with the Knights of Columbus, there are plenty of specific “things to do” here at Saint John. Many of these opportunities do not require significant time commitments, but unless you know about them, how could the Ministries expect you to join in?
You will find the “Help Wanted” in upcoming bulletins that will tell you exactly how you could support short-term efforts like distributing Valentines to Adult Communities and driving golf carts at the Gaelic and Garlic Festival to longer term efforts like tutoring with the Ladies of Charity and mission trips with the Jamaica Outreach Program.
