I want to thank every member of our Parish Family for continuing with the flexibility we have all learned over the past year when it comes to our campus. When we first closed the church building in June to allow for the invasive testing to determine the full extent of the damage incurred by Hurricane Irma’s wrath, we held our breath as the adjuster and engineer probed the roof and the ceiling. Many of us may not have realized just how much destruction was caused by the storm since we had been able to keep it open and cleaned up the essential areas effectively. We already knew the pews had been damaged beyond saving. The carpet was stained and could not stay. All the exterior doors were warped and barely closing, including the main door behind the altar. With each storm, rain dripped down from the removed skylight. We feared the worst.
However, we are blessed that there was very little (10%) of the structural ceiling that would need to be replaced. We were able to get right to work with the massive repair and construction effort needed to get our church back. With all the damage to our Sanctuary, it also gave us an opportunity to renew our worship space with a new and powerfully faith enriching environment. We are working incredibly hard to restore our Parish Family to the Church Building, completing the complete transformation of our campus in less than 2 years. Here are some pictures of the current status of our church building so you can get a feel for the scope of work going on now:
Of course, the main question being asked is: when are we getting back into the church? As you can see, there is a significant amount of work being done and we are making progress. There is no final date set yet, but once the marble arrives and the pews are delivered, we are going to be able to provide the specific schedule. Stay tuned for more updates and thank you again for all your patience!
